Foot-Level Reporting in a World of Digital Guesswork
NordicPace started in Easton, Bristol out of frustration with online hiking directories. Web pages were packed with recycled tourist brochures, AI-generated route descriptions, and affiliate lists promoting flexible walking poles that vibrated painfully after two miles of pavement.
We decided to build an independent journal that walks every trail from gate to summit before writing a word. We carry digital gradient meters, check stile widths, and test gear across the Avon Gorge and the Mendips in wind, rain, and winter mud.
We remain totally independent of gear manufacturers and paid tourism boards. Our publications are funded by our readership, allowing us to tell walkers plainly where trails are impassable, where livestock poses a hazard, and which gear simply fails on wet rock.
Good trail journalism demands sore feet and honest notes. We measure slope angles and ground clearance ourselves rather than relying on tourism brochures.
Marcus VanceSenior Route Editor and Technical Walking LeadFootpath honesty
We report overgrown paths, locked gates, and impassable mud directly. If a route is frustrating, our notes tell you clearly.
Zero sponsored trails
We never take money from tourism agencies or outdoor brands to rank their routes or equipment favorably.
Local ground knowledge
Our team works and walks in the Bristol area daily. We understand local geology, seasonal weather, and trail access laws.
Our On-Trail Audit Rules
We inspect every documented trail on foot at least once every twelve weeks to record footpath diversions, stile closures, and seasonal mud conditions. Equipment teardowns are performed on retail-bought items without brand sponsorship.
